A self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted on the difficulties experienced by 141 stuff members of psychiatry day- treatment institutions, etc., providing support to autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) individuals. Analysis of free-text entries revealed difficulties in the following areas resulting from a lack of knowledge among support providers: “understanding of ASD characteristics,” “concrete responses to be taken” and “planning of tailor-made support.” In addition, the analysis revealed that, due to the ADS characteristics of those individuals, service providers experience “difficulties in resolving issues.”
