People are still afraid to have the talk. They fear speaking about suicide but it continues to be the tenth leading cause of death in the United states. A lot of fear and lack of awareness is what keeps so many from seeking and receiving help. I know because I use to be one of those people. Instead of being aware and comfortable with having the talk about my mental health I attempted to take my life twice in the past 10 years. I felt ashamed and scared to talk about my issues because of how society views mental health and suicide. Now that I'm in recovery from Major Depressive Disorder I have become a mental health advocate, Certified Peer Support Specialist, Self Help Book Author of "A Fight Worth Finishing" a book about my own personal experiences with depression and suicide, and I own my own recovery based Service to help those who battle depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. I have made it my life's mission to get other's to be aware of their mental health. I have reached over one million people on social media with my advocating. Something I've heard from a few people is "thank you for speaking up. Your words saved my live". By continually making others aware and not feel ashamed it can truly save lives. I wish to discuss this in detail during my presentation.
