Productivity in an Early Psychosis Intervention Program: An Electronic Data Collection and Analysis Software Pilot

The Early Psychosis Intervention Program (EPIP) is a clinical service based at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), Singapore. Patients accepted into the program are aged 16 to 40 years old, and are newly-diagnosed with a first episode of psychosis. They are followed up for a period of up to three years, and receive active intervention from a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists and case managers. As a state-funded service, EPIP has consistently maintained an assessment system to obtain feedback on patient outcomes, as part of program evaluation. A battery of tests including, but not limited to, Positive and Negative Symptom Scale (PANSS), Patient Health Questionnaire 9 (PHQ-9), and sociodemographic information are administered at fixed time points in each patient’s treatment journey. Information from these ratings has been stored in a nationally registered standing database, since EPIP’s establishment in 2001. While the current method of manual data collection is thorough and adequate, it is unfortunately significantly time-consuming, labour-intensive, and costly. As part of the movement towards increased productivity, a software pilot has been launched to better support the existing ratings system. The proposed platform routinely delivers electronic questionnaires to the relevant stakeholders, and generates real-time interactive infographics for ease of clinical evaluations. This allows for increased predictive ability of a patient’s recovery trajectory and meaningful case discussions, especially in an early psychosis programme, where it is critical for intervention to be timely and individualized. The effectiveness of the pilot will be based on evaluation of performance indicators, and results will be shared at the presentation.
